Book Club Discussion

Love Walked In
by Marisa de los Santos

Love Walked In, by Marisa de los Santos, is the kind of book that makes you want to hunker down on a chilly day in a comfy chair and read straight through ’til dark. . . .This [is a] poignant, heart-tugging story about a single woman and a little girl who develop an unlikely bond.”

The Washington Post Book World

“A bewitching, warmhearted grown-up fairy tale about old movies, charming princes, and finding happily ever after in the place where you’d least expect it.”

—Jennifer Weiner, author of Good in Bed, In Her Shoes, and Little Earthquakes

“A touching, triumphant story of the power and variety and responsibility of love. A joy to read, filled with characters you wish you knew in real life. Love Walked In is every bit as engaging as the classic movies Marisa de los Santos lovingly invokes.”

—Karen Joy Fowler, author of
The Jane Austen Book Club

Internet Instruction : Instruction on the patron access database of all of this library's materials and those of 36 other public libraries in the Merrimack Valley, other Internet manipulation, and specific use of the Flint's Internet database subscriptions is available to all interested patrons.

A very useful Internet Tutorials Website for information on Internet basics, search engines and subject directories as well as help in understanding our Web browser, Netscape Communicator, has been prepared by the University of Albany Libraries.

Interlibrary Loan : If the Merrimack Valley Library Consortium (MVLC) does not own a particular book that you are seeking or you are looking for information on a particular subject that is not thoroughly covered by materials owned by the network, ask the librarian to find these materials at other Regional or State libraries. They will be retrieved and delivered as soon as possible. The Flint will then call you about their availability.

Magazine and Newspaper Circulation : The Flint subscribes to more than 130 magazines and/or newspapers, all of which can be borrowed, including the most current issues.

Audiobooks : The Flint Library purchases and rents unabridged books in the audiotape and CD formats. Popular titles as well as classics are a part of the collection. The library receives new installments of audio books on a quarterly basis so that the collection is updated and refreshed. If you do not find an audio book you are looking for, simply make a request at the circulation desk and an attempt will be made to locate the material and have it delivered to the library.

Large Print Books : The Flint’s large print book collection is presently situated in the Children’s Department so that it is handicapped accessible. The large print collection contains books by popular authors. If you are interested in reading a particular title in the large print format and we do not possess it, the Flint can retrieve it from another library.

Reference Help : Reference assistance is always available for research projects, information searches, or simple queries. The staff is skilled at using print resources as well as Internet databases. Databases include subject searching for full-text periodical articles from thousands of journals, magazines and newspapers. Reference help takes the form of locating material dealing with: consumer ratings, businesses, genealogy and local history, atlases and maps, literary criticism, tax forms, legal and medical information, and almost anything else.

Photocopies and computer print-outs are available for 10 cents each (25 cents, if a colored print-out). Ask for assistance at the circulation desk.
